Tourists warned of Scottish pubs, haggis

EDINBURGH, Scotland, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- U.S. tourists, at least those posting on one online travel Web site, find dangers lurking everywhere in Scotland, including haggis, soccer fans and drunks.

Pubs, which can be home to drunks and soccer fans, are minefields in other ways, the Glasgow Daily Record reports. Posters on virtualtourist.com have a lot of advice on the subject.

"Don't stare at anyone if you're in a pub," one person advises. "They may take it the wrong way and beat you up. If you are going to go to a 'small' town, don't get drunk and make advances on the women... I have tried this.... it is dangerous."

Another simply warns, "Don't get drunk in a strange pub."

A poster who claims to be an "adventurous eater" does not like haggis, the Scottish national dish of minced meat boiled in a sheep's stomach. Curiously, the poster describes haggis as "really bland."

As for drunks, visitors are warned not to give them money. One wise poster warns that criticizing a soccer team in front of a fan could lead to physical damage.
