House cat makes mail delivery unsafe

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, May 6 (UPI) -- The Canada Post mail delivery is refusing to deliver mail to a Winnipeg man's home, saying the man's pet cat is making delivery to the house unsafe.

John Samborski recently received a letter in the mail saying he would have to start picking up his mail from a nearby depot, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

"I think this is ridiculous," Samborski said. "(We) never, ever had any kind of warning, written or verbal, of any sort from them, none whatsoever."

Samborski insists his 8-year-old cat, Shadow, is just scared of strangers and is not a threat.

The Canada Post sees it differently, claiming the cat has threatened three letter carriers. One said the cat tried to climb up his arm and scratch his face.

When the CBC visited Samborski at his home, Shadow appeared docile -- but did hiss and bear his fangs when a photographer tried to get pictures.
