NOVI SAD, Serbia, April 10 (UPI) -- Serbian police in the northern city of Novi Sad said they arrested three men for stealing a 26-foot long track of a major railroad leading to Hungary.

A spokesman for the Novi Sad police said the three were caught red-handed when a patrol was making its rounds along the international railroad from the Serbian capital Belgrade to Subotica, at the Hungarian border, the Serbian news agency Beta reported Tuesday.

Officers were riding near a railroad bridge on the Danube-Tisa-Danube River canal when they spotted the three about to leave with a truck already loaded with the 26-foot long section of track.

Police officers seized the track and asked Novi Sad railway teams to put it back in place immediately.

Police filed criminal charges against the men, the spokesman said.
