Russia says king shot drunk bear

MOSCOW, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Spanish King Juan Carlos has been accused of shooting a drunk and tame bear during a hunting trip in Russia, the Moscow Times reported.

The king issued a statement calling the accusation "ridiculous."

Some speculate that local authorities intoxicated the bear for the king's hunting pleasure, using honey-laced vodka.

A regional Russian hunting official sent a letter to Russian officials earlier this week, alleging the bear shot by the king in August was indeed drunk.
