Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia, R-Cathedral City, made the racy remark last week while visiting a senior economics class at La Quinta High School. Advertisement The Los Angeles Times could not confirm Garcia's exact words, but her spokesman told the newspaper: "I think those were along the lines of what she said." Garcia, 44, issued a mea culpa Sunday that blasted supporters of her Democratic opponent -- former Assemblyman Steve Clute -- for making a mountain out of a molehill, The Times reported Tuesday. She called her critics sexist and said the comment was "only an issue because I am a woman," the newspaper said. La Quinta Principal Donna Salazar said she learned of the incident the day after Garcia's visit. The teacher said Garcia's response to a student's question about what the governor was "lighthearted" and "off-the-cuff."
