Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe PITTSBURGH, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Pittsburgh schools suspended a program giving away refurbished computers after some of the machines showed up for sale on eBay. To add to the embarrassment, the store offering the 50 computers for sale is being investigated by the FBI for receiving stolen property, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. Advertisement "If some got into the wrong hands, we don't want to repeat that situation," Richard Fellers, the school district's chief of operations, told the newspaper. The computers were used in school classrooms and have been replaced with leased ones. Officials decided to have them refurbished and gave them to parents and to non-profit groups working in Pittsburgh. A1 PC somehow got computers that were being stored in a school building, not ones that have been handed out. But officials say there are also problems with the giveaway program because recipients were not required to show proof that they have children or even live in the city, and organizations also did not have to demonstrate that they are operating in Pittsburgh.
