BARNSTABLE, Mass., Aug. 10 (UPI) -- A Massachusetts man is suing his doctor and a supermarket chain for his addiction to the powerful painkiller OxyContin.

Robert Haskell claims the defendants are responsible for his overmedication, which led to his addiction, the Boston Herald reports.

Haskell alleges that Dr. Robert Harned of Chatham Medical Associates knew about that he had gotten hooked on OxyContin but continued to write prescriptions.

The suit, filed in Barnstable Superior Court, claims that the pharmacy at a Stop & Shop supermarket should have noticed prescriptions for what Haskell's lawyer called a "medically inappropriate" amount of addictive drugs.

Harned and Stop & Shop refused to comment.
