VALPARAISO, Ind., Aug. 9 (UPI) -- A burglar used a state identification card to break into a Porter County, Ind., garage and broke off a piece that led police straight to the card's owner.

The broken piece of the Indiana identification card found at the burglary scene contained a Social Security number.

"This is not a Phi Beta Kappa person we're dealing with here," Sheriff's Police Chief Deputy David Lain told the Gary (Ind.) Post-Tribune.

While the garage was entered, the homeowner said it appeared nothing had been taken.

Police said they were unable to immediately find the card's owner for questioning.
