HULL, England, April 26 (UPI) -- Environmental activists climbed onto the British deputy prime minister's roof Tuesday and installed a solar panel.

Around 20 protesters from Greenpeace scaled John Prescott's walls to the roof for the construction project. BBC News said Prescott was the target of the protest because he is responsible for housing policies.

Protester Laura Yates said security around the Prescott home did not stop them once they realized it was a peaceful protest.

"We made it very clear we were from Greenpeace and we were not going to do any damage," she said. "We just hope that we'll be able to give them some tips on improving the energy efficiency of their home."

A Greenpeace spokesman said the panels were a gift, along with roof insulation and low-energy light bulbs.

Prescott, campaigning in Gloucester, called the home makeover "deplorable" and said his wife was "terrorized" by the protesters.
