French 'Spiderman' scales tallest building

TAIPEI, Taiwan, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- A French climber who has scaled most of the world's landmark skyscrapers can now claim to have conquered the tallest one of all.

Alain Robert, 42, scalded the 1,671-foot Taipei Financial Center in four hours, the BBC reported Saturday.

Robert, who has climbed such landmarks as the Eiffel Tower and about 30 of the world's tallest buildings and calls himself "Spiderman," was able to achieve his latest goal with the cooperation of authorities.

The 101-story building, which is 184 feet taller than Malaysia's Petronas Tower, the next highest building, will be formally opened on New Year's Eve.

It cost $1.8 billion and features the world's fastest elevators.
