BOSTON, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- A computer "docu-game" that recreates the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy has drawn the wrath of his family, the Boston Herald reports.

"JFK Reloaded" was released Monday by the Scottish group Traffic Games to coincide with the 41st anniversary of the president's assassination in Dallas.

"It's despicable. There's really no further comment," said David Smith, Sen. Ted Kennedy's spokesman.

Kirk Ewing, company managing director and a former documentary filmmaker, said the software was not so much a game as learning tool.

"What we are hoping to do is re-ignite people's passion for history," Ewing said. "We think there's a whole generation of people who have no experience of the Kennedy assassination.

However, presidential historian Calvin MacKenzie of Boston's Colby College told the newspaper he disagreed.

"Aside from being in incredibly bad taste, the idea of marketing it as an educational tool seems to stretch the notion of education beyond belief."

The game became available for download Monday from the Internet for $9.99.
