MOSCOW, July 15 (UPI) -- A Moscow man is facing a long legal battle to disprove his blind ex-wife's declaration that he is dead, the Moscow Times reported Thursday.

Oleg Lunkov, 42, learned from the government he died in the Feb. 6 Moscow subway bombing when he applied to renew his passport.

He was told his ex-wife, Alla Timofeyeva had reported him to police as missing after the bombing that killed 38 people.

The woman is legally blind, and sent her mother to identify the remains.

"My mother-in-law said, 'I recognize some of the clothes, but I can't be positive they are his,'" Lunkov said.

He said he is confused as to why his ex-wife -- who is a lawyer -- would assume he was in the subway since he is a taxi driver and hasn't ridden the city's Metro system for years.

It is known his ex received $3,400 in compensation, as did all relatives of those killed in the bombing. But word that her ex-husband is alive brought no joy to Timofeyeva.

"Without a doubt, I will take this man to court on grounds of fabricating his own death if he is identified as my husband," she said.
