According to the Hollywood Reporter, McGuire's face was not among those shown during the 74th annual movie-fest awards. Advertisement McGuire was a nominee for best actress in 1947 for her role in "Gentleman's Agreement." She also is remembered for "The Spiral Staircase," "Swiss Family Robinson" and "Old Yeller." Meanwhile, the family and others have launched a letter-writing campaign to officials of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences suggesting that something be done at next year's awards show to remember the late actress. McGuire's death went largely unreported, at least on page ones around the country, because it came just two days after the events of Sept. 11. Advertisement JENNIFER LOPEZ Jennifer Lopez is becoming quite a businesswoman. She invested in the re-do of a Hollywood nightclub called the Conga Room, then decided to branch into the restaurant business. According to the Los Angeles Daily News, Lopez's hopes of opening a new Cuban-themed eatery in Pasadena to cash-in on Oscar-night business didn't pan out when the retrofit of the restaurant fell off schedule. Now comes word that the place, the former Pinot Restaurant and Martini Bar, will be reopened in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, a member of the California Restaurant Association has told the publication that it's one thing to draw in customers with a famous star's name, but it will be the quality of the food that determines if the new customers come back for more. (The above two items thanks to UPI's Dennis Daily) 'SOAP TALK' "Days of Our Lives" star Lisa Rinna and "One Life to Live's" Ty Treadway will team up to co-host SoapNet's second original series, "SoapTalk." The soap- and lifestyle-themed show will premiere on the network June 10. Guests will range from soap experts and costume designers to the biggest stars from the most popular soaps. SoapNet's first original show, "SoapCenter," made its debut in January 2000. Advertisement Rinna starred for three years in "Days of Our Lives," beginning in 1992, as the beautiful yet deplorable Billie Reed. She subsequently had a two-season stint on the primetime drama "Melrose Place." The actress is married to actor Harry Hamlin of "L.A. Law" fame. Treadway joined the cast of "One Life to Live" in May 2000, playing the handsome but manipulative Dr. Colin MacIver. Though his character was killed off in the spring of 2001, Treadway returned last August as Colin's twin brother, Troy. BEVERLY SILLS Beverly Sills will be stepping down as chairwoman of New York's Lincoln Center, the world's biggest performing arts center. The Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, in midtown Manhattan, is home to a dozen arts groups -- including the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, New York City Ballet, The Juilliard School and the New York Philharmonic. Sills, a former opera singer, has been Lincoln Center's chairwoman since 1994. She told The New York Times that she'll continue to serve in the post until a successor is picked -- but she's hoping to leave the job around May 1, when the center gets a new president, Reynold Levy. Sills has spent most of her 72 years in the performing arts. Advertisement MILLS LANE Celebrity boxing referee Mills Lane was hospitalized in Reno, Nev., after suffering a stroke Monday. Lane, 64, is a former NCAA boxing champion and district judge who has refereed some of boxing's biggest fights. He was in the national spotlight in 1997 when he disqualified Mike Tyson for biting Evander Holyfield's ear. Lane parlayed the attention into a syndicated TV show, "Judge Mills Lane," which was canceled a year ago.
