Lottery player's number-choosing mistake leads to $50,000 win

Dec. 19 (UPI) -- A Maryland man said a mistake he made while choosing his lottery numbers led him to a $50,015 jackpot.

The 70-year-old Churchton man told Maryland Lottery officials he has played the same Bonus Match 5 numbers for 20 years, but he made a mistake when he filled out a five-draw payslip Nov. 26 and ended up with the number 11 instead of his usual 12.

The numbers, 2-4-7-11-31, ended up earning him $50,000 in the Nov. 29 drawing, while he won another $15 from another line on his ticket.

The winner said he bought the ticket at the 7-Eleven store in Deale.

"I go down there to get my coffee every day since I retired," he said.

The man and his wife said they plan to remodel their home with some of the money and share the prize with their three grandchildren.
