Lorde celebrates 21st birthday with concert, leaves surprise package for fans

Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Lorde celebrated her 21st birthday Tuesday with a concert inside her home country of New Zealand.

The performance took place at the Dunedin Town Hall located in the city of Dunedin, New Zealand which held 2,000 fans.

Lorde who performed songs such as "Homemade Dynamite," "Loveless" and "Green Light" from her most recent album Melodrama along with "Royals," "Tennis Courts" and "Team" from her first release Pure Heroine, was treated to a mass singing of "Happy Birthday" by the fans in attendance, Stuff reported.

"I have a couple of friends who live down here," the pop star said after thanking the crowd for their rendition of "Happy Birthday."

The concert was a part of Lorde's ongoing Melodrama world tour which will reach North America starting March 1 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee before wrapping up April 15 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Opening acts for the North American leg of the tour will include rap group Run the Jewels and singers Mitski and Tove Styrke

Lorde, before the concert, shared on Twitter that she left behind a surprise package for fans to find behind a book located inside the Dunedin city library.

"DUNEDIN: left a little package in the city library behind this book. see you tonight," the 21-year-old wrote. Fans on social media then began to speculate what Lorde had left behind with users noting that two girls were seen claiming the prize which included two concert tickets.
