June 20 (UPI) -- Lorde has apologized on Twitter for comparing her friendship with Taylor Swift to an autoimmune disease in a new interview.
"It's like having a friend with very specific allergies. There are certain places you can't go together. Certain things you can't do. There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship. It's like having a friend with an autoimmune disease," the singer said to The Guardian Saturday about maintaining a friendship with someone as famous as Swift.
Lorde was called out on Twitter by a fan who said that her comments were insensitive to Swift's friend Selena Gomez who suffers from lupus.
"Didn't mention Taylor, but regardless, I [expletive] up & that was really insensitive. i'm sorry," Lorde wrote in response.
Lorde and Swift are close friends -- Swift threw her friend a star-studded 20th birthday party in November.
Lorde has recently released her second studio album titled Melodrama and has announced a world tour for the fall.
