'Twisted Metal' live-action series casts Thomas Haden Church

May 19 (UPI) -- Peacock announced Thomas Haden Church was cast in its its Twisted Metal series Thursday. Church joins leads Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz.

Church will play Agent Stone, a highway patrolman on the post-apocalyptic roads. That could make him the antagonist to John Doe (Mackie) and Quiet (Beatriz).

John is a milkman who can win his freedom if he makes a dangerous delivery. Quiet is a car thief who teams up with John for revenge.

Church most recently reprised his Spider-Man 3 role of Sandman in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The streaming service first announced a live-action Twisted Metal series on Feb. 28. The show is based on the Sony Playstation video game franchise.

The games feature high-speed, violent vehicular battles, which the half-hour series promises to capture. Deadpool and Zombieland writers Rhett Rheese and Paul Wernick adapted the game.

Cobra Kai staff writer Michael Jonathan Smith will write and show run Twisted Metal for Peacock. Will Arnett and Marc Forman obtained the rights to the game via their company Electric Avenue.

Kitao Sakurai will direct several episodes and executive produce.
