May 19 (UPI) -- Bronson Reed became the new North American Champion after facing Johnny Gargano in a Steel Cage match on WWE NXT.
The championship bout was the main event on Wednesday. Gargano, who is the leader of The Way, was accompanied to the ring by his teammate Austin Theory.
Theory was a constant presence during the match as he tried multiple times to help Gargano escape the cage. Theory was also able to prevent Reed from leaving the structure on numerous occasions.
Gargano was able to land a top rope Powerbomb and the One Final Beat DDT after Theory slammed the cage door in Reed's face, but it wasn't enough to keep down the bigger and stronger grappler.
Reed won the match after fighting off Theory and performing the Tsunami from the top rope. Reed got emotional after winning his first title in WWE and later celebrated with his wife.
Also on WWE NXT, Hall of Famer The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase once again foiled Cameron Grimes, who hit it big after investing in GameStop stocks.
DiBiase, in recent weeks has been making Grimes' life a living hell as he has outbid Grimes at auctions. Grimes arrived to the arena and told Jake Atlas to park his expensive sports car. Atlas then teased Grimes about DiBiase, which set up a one-on-match.
Grimes, before getting into the ring, replayed a video highlighting some of the worst moments of DiBiase's career.
Grimes was in control of the match and was ready to deliver the Cave-In until DiBiase arrived onto the scene. Atlas took advantage of the distraction and pinned Grimes to win the match as DiBiase did his signature laugh.
NXT Women's Tag Team Champions Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell of The Way enjoyed a spa day together. Hartwell was unaware that her crush Dexter Lumis was giving her a massage and spoke ill of him, causing the creepy Lumis to leave.
As LeRae got ready to pay for the spa, her credit card was declined due to an unpaid expense involving flowers. Hartwell then realized that it was LeRae who made it seem like Lumis had sent flowers to their rivals Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart.
Hartwell, instead of getting mad, told LeRae that this means Lumis still likes her and excitedly left.
Other moments from WWE NXT included Toni Storm defeating Zoey Stark; Killian Dain defeating his former partner Alexander Wolfe after Wolfe hesitated; Wolfe being attacked by his Imperium partners Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner afterwards; Legado del Fantasma defeating Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher; Sarray defeating Aliyah; and Hit Row defeating Toney Nese and Ariya Daivari.
Next week, NXT Champion Karrion Kross will defend his championship against Finn Balor.
