March 9 (UPI) -- Former President Barack Obama is in advanced talks with Netflix to produce and possibly appear in future television projects, the New York Times reported.

Under the deal, Netflix would pay Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, for content that would be available exclusively via the global streaming service.

"President and Mrs. Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire," Eric Schultz, a senior adviser to Obama, told the Times on Thursday. "Throughout their lives, they have lifted up stories of people whose efforts to make a difference are quietly changing the world for the better. As they consider their future personal plans, they continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories."

Apple and Amazon, which have their own streaming services, have also expressed interest in collaborating with the Obamas, the newspaper reported.

CNN confirmed through an unnamed source that a "production partnership" had not been finalized.
