Joseph Duggar, wife Kendra expecting first child

Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Newlyweds Joseph and Kendra Duggar are expecting their first child.

Joseph, 22, announced in a video on the TLC website Monday that Kendra, 19, is pregnant and expecting a baby in 2018.

"I've always dreamed of having my own family and it's really just kind of surreal that it's actually here," he said alongside Kendra. "I kind of think it's going to be a boy, but either way I'm happy just to have a baby."

Joseph added he hopes the baby has "Kendra's laugh," while Kendra said she wants their son or daughter to be "patient like Joe."

"The biggest piece of advice I've heard is just to get lots of sleep," the mom-to-be shared.

Joseph and Kendra said in an interview with Us Weekly that they are "so excited" to become parents.

"We've both always loved children and seen them as a real blessing from God," the couple said. "It's so surreal to think of being parents and having our own little one. We cannot wait to see this new baby!"

Joseph and Kendra married in September after getting engaged at Joseph's sister Joy Anna Duggar's wedding in May. Joy Anna herself announced in August that she's expecting her first child with husband Austin Forsyth.

Joseph and his family came to fame on the TLC series 19 Kids & Counting and presently star on Jill & Jessa: Counting On.
