'A Tale of Two Coreys' to premiere Jan. 6

By Karen Butler

Dec. 8 (UPI) -- A Tale of Two Coreys, Lifetime's TV movie about 1980s teen idols Corey Haim and Corey Feldman, is to premiere on the cable network Jan. 6.

Feldman -- an actor and entertainer who has lately been campaigning to expose pedophilia in Hollywood -- is a producer on The Two Coreys. Haim died from complications of pneumonia in 2010 after years of substance abuse. He was 38.

Thursday's minute-long trailer for the small-screen biopic features Elijah Marcano and Scott Bosely playing Feldman at different ages and Justin Ellings and Casey Leach portraying Haim.

The preview showed how Haim and Feldman met as kids, became friends and worked together on several popular movies, including The Lost Boys, License to Drive and Dream a Little Dream.

"But as their stars rose, their lives began to quickly spin out of control with endless partying and drugs," a press release said. "As their fame and fortune increased, dark secrets haunted them. Young and impressionable, the actors suffered through years of sexual abuse at the hands of industry insiders. With studio offers drying up and their reputations becoming tabloid fodder, Feldman eventually turned his life around by getting sober, getting married and having a son. With the support of Feldman, Haim seemed to be embracing another chance in Hollywood when the two starred in their own reality series The Two Coreys. Tragically, Haim's comeback ended abruptly when he died suddenly from what the autopsy reported as natural causes."
