Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Commissioner Shane McMahon started selecting who will represent Smackdown Live against Raw at Survivor Series Tuesday on the blue brand by placing potential candidates in qualifying matches.

After meeting with Sami Zayn for the first time since his violent Hell in a Cell confrontation against Kevin Owens, McMahon explained to Zayn that he wasn't wanted on Team Smackdown after he had helped Owens win the match.

Zayn was placed in a qualifying match, however, to earn his spot on Team Smackdown against Randy Orton who he defeated last week alongside Owens by delivering a low blow.

The main event of the night, Owens eventually appeared to try and help his best friend unsuccessfully win the match as the distraction wasn't enough for Zayn to pin Orton for the victory. The Viper then used Owens yelling at the referee to deliver a low blow to Zayn followed by an RKO for the win.

Orton will now be on the Smackdown Men's team at Survivor Series on Nov. 19 as WWE's two flagship shows battle for brand supremacy in a series of bouts including two 5-on-5 Traditional Survivor Series matches and a number of champion vs. champion matches.

Next week, more qualifying matches will be taking place including Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler and Owens vs. Shinsuke Nakamura.

Also on Smackdown, it was announced that Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Naomi, Tamina and Ms. Money in the Bank Carmella would be representing the blue brand's Women's Division at Survivor Series.

The five Superstars were then placed in a Fatal 5-Way Match to determine the team's captain that was won by Lynch after she made Carmella tap out to her Dis-arm -- her submission maneuver. Lynch was notably front and center Monday on Raw as the Smackdown roster decimated the red brand's locker room.

WWE Champion Jinder Mahal was also on-hand Tuesday where he referred to Universal Champion Brock Lesnar's advocate Paul Heyman as a used car salesmen and a walrus. The Modern Day Maharaja also said that he was Lesnar's "worst nightmare."

Following his speech, Mahal's henchman Sunil Singh faced off against AJ Styles in his honor in a quick match that started with the referee banning Mahal from ringside. Styles then won the match by applying the Calf Crusher to Singh.
