Oct. 18 (UPI) -- WWE Champion Jinder Mahal made a surprise announcement Tuesday on Smackdown Live when he challenged Universal Champion Brock Lesnar of Raw to a match at Survivor Series.
The Modern Day Maharaja, alongside his henchmen The Singh Brothers, explained to the live audience that following his trip to his native India, he wanted new competition outside of Smackdown as he has already beaten the best the blue-brand has to offer including Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura.
According to Mahal, despite his lengthy title-reign, he is still not receiving the respect he deserves so that he will go out and prove that he is the greatest WWE Champion of all time by slaying The Beast.
It was then that AJ Styles entered the ring and explained that Mahal had never defeated him in a match, leaving plenty of competition left for the champ to face on Smackdown. After a war of words, The Phenomenal One attacked Mahal and The Singh Brothers who quickly left the ring after Styles nailed Mahal with a Pele Kick.
Backstage, a furious Mahal approached Smackdown general manager Daniel Bryan and demanded repercussions for Styles attacking him. The champion then volunteered Sunil Singh of the Singh Brothers to face Styles one-on-one next week which Bryan accepted.
On Monday, WWE announced that Lesnar along with his advocate Paul Heyman, will respond to Mahal's Survivor Series challenge for a champion vs. champion match. Survivor Series which features both Raw and Smackdown Superstars, is set to take place on Nov. 19.
In the main event of Smackdown Live, best friends Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn took on the formidable team of Nakamura and Orton.
The match made by Bryan featured Orton slamming Zayn through the announcers table before Owens was able to take out Nakamura and distract the referee. This led to Zayn delivering a low blow to The Viper and then a Helluva Kick for the three count.
Owens and Zayn then shared an emotional hug inside the ring and gloated backstage to Bryan about their win before the general manager announced that next week, Smackdown commissioner Shane McMahon would be returning to deal with them.
Other moments from Smackdown Live included Charlotte Flair, Naomi and Becky Lynch defeating Natalya, Lana and Tamina; Sin Cara defeating United States Champion Baron Corbin by count-out; and Dolph Ziggler defeating Bobby Roode after he grabbed hold of The Glorious One's tights for extra leverage during a pinning attempt.
