'Young Pope' creator Paolo Sorrentino now working on 'New Pope' for Sky, HBO

May 16 (UPI) -- Sky and HBO say they are working on The New Pope, an original series created and directed by Paolo Sorrentino.

Sorrentino also made The Young Pope, which starred Jude Law and aired on the networks in 2016-17.

The New Pope is to go into production late next year in Italy. No casting has been announced yet.  

"The screenplay is being written by Paolo Sorrentino and Umberto Contarello and marks Sorrentino's second limited series set in the world of the modern Papacy," a press release said.
