The series from writer Mike O'Brien and executive producers Seth Meyers and Lorne Michaels is expected to debut in the 2017-18, television season, Variety said.

The sitcom follows a philosophy scholar forced to work as a high school, advanced-placement, biology teacher after he loses his dream job.

Howerton is best known for writing, producing and co-starring in the dark comedy It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which began its 12-season run in 2005.
