LOS ANGELES, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Reba McEntire is set to headline a new ABC series from creator Marc Cherry.

According to Variety, the new drama will be a "Southern Gothic soap opera" about a FBI agent of Middle Eastern descent teaming up with a small town sheriff (McEntire) to investigate a suspected terrorist attack.

Cherry will also serve as showrunner and executive producer. His partner Sabrina Wind will be producing under the duo's Cherry-Wind Productions banner.

This is the latest series from Cherry after creating Lifetime's successful Devious Minds and the award-winning Desperate Housewives for ABC and marks a return to acting for McEntire following the long-running Reba on the CW and ABC's short-lived Malibu Country.

McEntire will next be seen performing on NBC's A Pentatonix Christmas Special featuring famed a capella group Pentatonix alongside Kelly Clarkson on Wednesday.
