Cartoon Network renews 'Powerpuff Girls' for a second season

LOS ANGELES, July 19 (UPI) -- Cartoon Network has announced the Season 2 renewal of its animated series The Powerpuff Girls.

"The Powerpuff Girls is on a momentous run with its first Emmy nod, a debut appearance at one of the biggest fan events of the year, and now a second season greenlight," Rob Sorcher, the network's chief content officer, said in a statement Tuesday. "Congratulations to the Cartoon Network creative teams who have super-powered this property with the perfect amount of Chemical X to bring a hit show for a new generation of fans."

The Powerpuff Girls will also make its inaugural appearance at this week's San Diego Comic-Con with a talent panel discussion and an immersive Townsville-inspired booth where conventiongoers can print their personalized avatar on a T-shirt or tote bag using the Powerpuff Girls avatar maker.

The show's voice cast features Amanda Leighton as Blossom, Kristen Li as Bubbles and Natalie Palamides as Buttercup.
