NEW YORK, July 18 (UPI) -- Taye Diggs will appear on Empire Season 3. The 45-year-old actor has landed the recurring role of Angelo Dubois, a city councilman with a Harvard law degree and wealthy family background, news outlets reported Monday.
TV Line described Dubois as guided by his sense of "noblesse oblige." He focuses on community organizing and local politics, drawing comparisons to Barack Obama.
Diggs will first appear in the Season 3 premiere, which airs Sept. 21. Singer Sierra McClain and rappers French Montana and Birdman will also guest star during the season.
Empire stars Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Trai Byers, Jussie Smollett and Bryshere Y. Gray. The series follows Lucious Lyon (Howard), a music mogul, and the family members who vie for control of his company.
"[Season 3 will really examine] the journey of Jamal's (Smollett) recovery," showrunner Ilene Chaiken told TV Line in May. The character took a bullet for Lucious in the penultimate episode of Season 2.
