Lena Headey: Cersei and Jaime will hit 'all-time weird' on 'Game of Thrones'

LONDON, March 24 (UPI) -- Lena Headey is opening up about Cersei's fate on Game of Thrones Season 6.

The 42-year-old English actress, who plays the scheming queen regent on the HBO series, discussed the new season in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

"It's probably her most interesting season," the star said. "She really has nothing to lose and she has everything to gain from a horrible position she finds herself in."

Cersei was last seen on the Season 5 finale completing her harrowing Walk of Shame. Her brother and lover, Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), meanwhile, is spotted witnessing their daughter's death hundreds of miles away in Dorne.

"Her relationship with Jaime is at an all-time weird level," Headey said before adding of the new episodes, "It's juicy, and it's so [expletive] dark."

The actress has played Cersei since the show's premiere in 2011 and was nominated for an Emmy award for the role in 2014 and 2015. She previously told the Wall Street Journal Cersei won't start Season 6 "incredibly happy."

"I think she's in a state of pure vengeance, but I don't think it's going to be straightforward because it's her," she said. "It is exciting. If I don't die."

Game of Thrones is based on the A Song of Ice and Fire book series by George R.R. Martin and will return for a sixth season April 24. Emilia Clarke co-stars as Daenerys Targaryen, with Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark and Maisie Williams as Arya Stark.
