LONDON, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Cult sci-fi series Black Mirror is moving over to Netflix next year for a 12-episode season, the streaming service announced Friday.

The British anthology series created by Charlie Brooker follows a Twilight Zone-style format that focuses on the impact of current and potential future technologies.

Brooker and executive producer Annabel Jones are working on the new season with the series, which will begin production this year in the U.K., confirming rumors from earlier this month.

"It's all very exciting — a whole new bunch of Black Mirror episodes on the most fitting platform imaginable," Booker said. "Netflix connects us with a global audience so that we can create bigger, stranger, more international and diverse stories than before, whilst maintaining that Black Mirror feel. I just hope none of these new story ideas come true."

"Charlie has created a one-of-a-kind series with an uncanny voice and prescient, darkly comedic vision," said Netflix Vice President Cindy Holland. "We're tremendously proud to bring Black Mirror to our members as a Netflix original series."

Black Mirror initially debuted on Netflix last year. The show's peaked success occurred once the series was available for viewing in the United States, creating a solid fan and media buzz.

The first three episodes were released in 2011, another three came in 2013, and a single episode was made in 2014.

The company released a short teaser trailer for the upcoming series on their Twitter account posting, "All new episodes. Coming soon. #BlackMirror."
