Rumer Willis, Michael Sam to compete on 'Dancing with the Stars'

The ABC reality competition will kick off season 20 on March 16.

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Rumer Willis and Michael Sam have joined Dancing with the Stars.

The 26-year-old actress and 25-year-old NFL free agent are among the celebrities who will compete on season 20 of the ABC reality series. The cast was announced Tuesday on Good Morning America, and professional dancer Derek Hough is unexpectedly confirmed to return.

"This all happened literally two days ago," he revealed. "I had a little heartbreak not being able to be part of the 20th season. I'm so glad we were able to make it happen. Let's make it the best season ever."

Willis last appeared with Brittany Snow in Always Woodstock, and is scheduled for Return to Sender with Rosamund Pike. The actress shared a photo of herself with Chmerkovskiy on Instagram, writing, "We are ready to take home the gold mirrorball #dwts20 @iamvalc #scottandfran."

Dancing with the Stars debuted in 2005, and will return March 16 at 8 p.m. ET. Professional dancer Witney Carson, who won season 19 with actor Alfonso Ribeiro, is confirmed to compete, and will reveal her partner in the coming weeks.
