Daniel Radcliffe says it's 'incredibly flattering' to play a young Jon Hamm

LOS ANGELES, July 10 (UPI) -- Daniel Radcliffe says it's "incredibly flattering" to portray a young version of Jon Hamm's character on A Young Doctor's Notebook.

The 24-year-old actor discussed the role during the Television Critic's Association summer press tour Tuesday. Radcliffe spoke via satellite, and had nothing but praise for Hamm and the Ovation series.

"It's obviously incredibly flattering," he said. "Incredibly flattering that he suggested me to play the young him."

The four-episode program is inspired by the autobiographical works of Russian author Mikhail Bulgakov (The Master and Margarita). Radcliffe stars as the young Dr. Vladimir Bomgard, a recent med school graduate who struggles with an addiction to morphine. He and his older self (Hamm) interact while he is under the influence of the drug, and the actor says viewers should not be thrown by their six-inch height difference.

"If they get hung up on that, there are going to be plenty of other logical problems," he asserted. "It definitely wasn't something we worried about too much ... The series is an incredibly fun one to film. Jon is a very funny guy."

Radcliffe added it was "great fun" to dance with Hamm in one particular scene, although he says it was "not easy" to dip the actor during the sequence. A Young Doctor's Notebook originally premiered on British channel Sky Arts, and returns to the Ovation channel August 19.
