LOS ANGELES, May 28 (UPI) -- Leah Remini says her family is "stronger" since she left Scientology in 2013.

The 43-year-old actress grew up in the church, and was an active member for 30 years before she left last year. Her choice to leave was highly-publicized, and she opened up about her decision on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in September. Remini appeared on the program again on Wednesday, and said her family is doing better since her departure.

"We're learning new ways to reconnect with each other, so it really has brought us closer together," the star tells Ellen. "We're stronger and and we're having so much fun together and this is something that the family loves to do."

Remini and her family are set to star in a reality show this summer on TLC. The program will follow the actress, her husband Angelo Pagán, 9-year-old daughter Sofia, and their extended family in their day-to-day lives.
