NEW YORK, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Lucasfilm introduced the Inquisitor, a villain in its upcoming "Star Wars Rebels" animated series, at New York Comic Con during the weekend.

The company said the black-clad, intimidating figure will play a prominent role in the show, which is to premiere in fall 2014.

In a video screened at the end of a panel discussion about the show, available at StarWars.com, "Star Wars Rebels" executive producer Dave Filoni officially showed design sketches and a sculpted maquette, and disclosed the Inquisitor is "tasked by Darth Vader to hunt down the remaining Jedi Knights."

The series takes place about 14 years after the events of "Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith," in a "time in which the Emperor's rule is secure and the Empire is seeking to expand its power to Outer Rim territories," a synopsis said.
