LOS ANGELES, March 20 (UPI) -- HBO says it has decided not to order a third season of its U.S. dramedy series "Enlightened," starring show co-creators Laura Dern and Mike White.

"It was a very difficult decision," HBO said in a statement. "We've decided not to continue 'Enlightened' for a third season. We're proud of the show, and we look forward to working with Mike White and Laura Dern in the future."

The Hollywood Reporter said low ratings were to blame for the decision.

Dern won a Golden Globe in 2012 for her portrayal of a former executive, who accepts a lower-level position in the same company after she has a mental breakdown and trip to rehab.
