Tucker Carlson winning bid on Ayers dinner

CHICAGO, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- An Illinois group says conservative pundit Tucker Carlson will break bread with one-time leftist radical Bill Ayers at a fundraising dinner.

Carlson submitted the winning bid for dinner with Ayers to be arranged by the Illinois Humanities Council.

Kristina Valaitis, executive director of the council, told the Chicago Tribune Carlson bid $2,500 for the event, which will include the Fox News commentator, Ayers and up to four other guests.

Ayers and his wife, Bernadette Dohrn, volunteered to cook the meal and provide the dinner-table conversation. The pair should have some interesting tales to tell since Ayers was a founder of the notorious Weather Underground in the 1960s and Dohrn was a high-profile anti-war radical as well.

The Tribune said the auction also included tickets to a Cubs game with Dohrn within the friendly and non-controversial confines of Wrigley Field.

"We were very pleased that they would do that," Valaitis said. "It's wonderful when someone wants to make an in-kind contribution to support the work we do."

The Illinois Humanities Council is a non-profit group that organizes lectures and other cultural events.
