Actor Harry Morgan dead at 96

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Actor Harry Morgan died Wednesday at his Los Angeles home, his son Charles said. He was 96.

The Detroit native is best known for playing Col. Sherman T. Potter on the classic Korean War-set sitcom "M*A*S*H." His other small-screen credits include "Dragnet," "Pete and Gladys," "December Bride," and "Hec Ramsey."

Morgan also appeared in more than 100 films. Among them were "The Ox-Bow Incident," "Wing and a Prayer," "High Noon," "Inherit the Wind," "How the West Was Won," "Frankie and Johnny," "Support Your Local Sheriff!," "Support Your Local Gunfighter!" and "The Shootist."

Charles Morgan told The New York Times his father was recently treated for pneumonia but the cause of his death wasn't immediately known.

The actor is survived by his wife Barbara, three sons and eight grandchildren. Another son, Daniel, died in 1989, the newspaper said.
