'Game of Thrones' honored at TCA Awards

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- "Friday Night Lights and "Game of Thrones," captured top honors at the 27th annual Television Critics Association's TCA Awards in Los Angeles, officials said.

Also winning awards Saturday night were "Mad Men," "Modern Family," and "Parks and Recreation," The Hollywood Reporter said.

The ceremony at the Beverly Hilton was hosted by "Parks and Recreation" star Nick Offerman.

DirecTV/NBC's Emmy-nominated "Friday Night Lights" won the program of the year award. HBO's "Game of Thrones" won the award for outstanding new program and for the second year in a row, AMC's "Mad Men" won the outstanding achievement in drama award.

The individual achievement in drama award went to Jon Hamm, who plays Don Draper in "Mad Men." Ty Burrell of "Modern Family" and Offerman tied for individual achievement in comedy.

Other winners were: "Restrepo," outstanding achievement in news and information; "The Amazing Race," outstanding achievement in reality programming; "Sesame Street," outstanding achievement in youth programming and "Masterpiece: Sherlock," outstanding achievement in movies, miniseries and specials.

Oprah Winfrey received a career achievement award and "The Dick Van Dyke Show" won the Heritage Award.
