NEW YORK, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Edison Pena, one of the 33 Chilean miners rescued last month, has been booked as a guest on the "Late Show with David Letterman" in New York, CBS said.

Pena is to appear on Thursday's edition of the show, marking the first in-studio interview for any of the miners since their October rescue.

"Pena, who was miraculously rescued along with the 32 other trapped miners, survived the 69-day ordeal by running three to six miles each day in the darkness of the collapsed mine near Copiapo, Chile," the network said in a news release Wednesday.

"Upon hearing his unique story and watching the rescue operation that was televised around the world, the New York Road Runners organization extended an invitation to Pena to run in the 2010 New York City Marathon, which he accepted Monday."

The marathon is set for Sunday.
