TONTITOWN, Ark., Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, stars of the U.S. reality TV series "18 Kids and Counting," have become grandparents for the first time, a family friend says.

The New York Daily News reported Friday the stars of the TLC reality series are the proud grandparents of Mackynzie Renee Duggar, daughter of the Duggars' eldest child Josh and his wife Anna.

"They are both so happy," the unidentified family friend said of the next generation of Duggar parents.

The elder Duggars, of Tontitown, Ark., have 10 sons and eight daughters. All of the siblings share first names starting with the letter "J" as per a family tradition.

The Daily News said Josh Duggar, whose age was not reported, said in July that he was using his experiences helping raise his siblings to be a good father to Mackynzie even before his daughter was born Thursday.

"I ask Anna what she needs," the eldest Duggar sibling said. "I talk to the baby and we involve her in our conversations. When Anna and I are talking to each other, we'll say, 'So, how do you like that, Mackynzie?'"
