K-pop stars postpone activities after Jonghyun's death

Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Several K-pop stars are postponing activities in the wake of South Korean singer Jonghyun's death.

Boy band EXO, girl group Twice and other acts delayed album and music video releases following the SHINee singer's apparent suicide Monday at age 27.

EXO, which is signed to the same label as SHINee, will postpone the release of its special winter album Universe. SM Entertainment announced the news on the band's official website, according to AllKpop.

"EXO's 2017 winter special album 'Universe' release date has been changed to December 26," the company said of the album, which was initially slated to debut Thursday. "We ask for your understanding. Thank you."

The Korea Herald reported Twice will delay the release of its "Merry & Happy" music video from Thursday, the day of Jonghyun's burial, to Friday. Boy band BTOB canceled a news conference for its 2017 BTOB Time Our Concert scheduled for Saturday.

Jonghyun, born Kim Jong-hyun, died Monday after being discovered unconscious at an apartment in Seoul. The singer discussed his battle with depression in a suicide note his friend Wolf shared Monday on Instagram.
