Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Jonghyun's friend says the South Korean singer spoke of his battle with depression in a suicide note.
Dear Cloud musician Nine shared a message from the SHINee singer in an Instagram post Monday that Jonghyun, born Kim Jong-hyun, reportedly asked her to post in the event of his death.
"Recently, Jonghyun did talk to me about some dark and deep thoughts," Nine wrote, according to Metro. "I started to get an uneasy feeling, so I told his family and tried my best to hold on to his mind, but in the end, I only delayed the timing, I could not stop it."
"I'm not sure if posting this is right, but Jonghyun personally requested that if he ever disappeared from this world that I would personally post this no matter what," she explained. "After discussing it with his family and according to his last wish, I'm posting his final message."
Jonghyun died Monday at age 27 after being discovered unconscious at an apartment in Seoul. His sister had called emergency services to say she feared the singer would attempt to kill himself, and police confirmed they are investigating the death as a suspected suicide.
"I am broken from inside," the K-pop star said in his suicide note, according to Variety. "The depression that had been slowly eating me up finally devoured me and I couldn't defeat it."
"Maybe I wasn't supposed to come up against the world; maybe I wasn't supposed to be known to the world; I've learned that's what [makes my life] difficult," he added, seeming to reflect on his celebrity. "How come I chose that.
