June 23 (UPI) -- Choa is leaving South Korean girl group AOA following a hiatus this year for depression. The 27-year-old K-pop star confirmed her departure Thursday on Instagram amid rumors she's dating Najin Industry CEO Lee Suk-jin.
"Although I was the oldest in the group, I'm still young. There were many times I wanted to cry during our promotions," Choa confessed in her post. "I was crying inside, but I had to appear happy. This happened over and over again, and the more I forced myself, the sicker I felt."
"To treat my insomnia and depression, I started taking medication and lessening my work load 2 years ago. However, I ended up stopping my activities as the problem wasn't due to exhaustion. I tried to get back to work as I thought of everyone waiting for me," she added.
"After speaking to our label, I've decided to leave the team called AOA today, and I'm going to cheer on my fellow members," the star said. "For the remainder of my 20s, I'd like to experience things that are appropriate for my age."
Choa last appeared with AOA at a concert in March, and told fans in May that she would return to the group, according to the Korea Herald. Her exit was followed by renewed reports Friday that she is dating Lee.
Sports Seoul published photos this week of Choa and Lee arriving back in Korea from Japan in May. Choa responded to the pictures by saying Lee was only there "to assist her" on the trip, according to the Korea Herald.
