May 30 (UPI) -- Bruce Springsteen joined fellow E Street Band member Steven Van Zandt for a surprise performance in New Jersey over Memorial Day weekend.

The Boss was in attendance for Van Zandt's show at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank that was celebrating the release of Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul's latest album, Soulfire.

"Can I get my friend who's out of work," Van Zandt said to Springsteen in the audience before he joined his friend onstage to perform four songs including "It's Been a Long Time," "Tenth Avenue Freeze-out," "I Don't Want to Go Home," and a cover of Marvin Gaye's "Can I Get a Witness" to close out the show.

Springsteen and Van Zandt were then spotted exiting the stage arm in arm.

Springsteen spent his Memorial Day weekend in New Jersey and was seen attending in his hometown of Freehold the 143rd Annual Memorial Day Parade.
