Tupac, Janet Jackson, and Pearl Jam among potential Hall of Fame inductees

BROOKLYN, N.Y., Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Tupac Shakur, Janet Jackson and Pearl Jam are among the 19 nominees eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Tupac, who pioneered hip hop in the 1990s, and Pearl Jam, who helped lead the '90s grunge movement, both became eligible for induction this year.

Other first-time nominees include Depeche Mode, Journey, Electric Light Orchestra, Joan Baez, Steppenwolf, and Jane's Addiction.

Chaka Khan is in the running for the second year, though this time as a solo artist, and J. Geils Band is up for induction for the fourth time.

A musician becomes eligible for consideration 25 years after releasing a first single or album. The 2016 class of artists will be announced in December and inducted in April.
