LONDON, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards is revealing new details about her broken engagement with Zayn Malik.

Edwards, 23, appears to confirm in a leaked excerpt from the Little Mix tell-all book Our World that Malik, 23, broke up with her via "a simple text message."

"I'm single at the moment and in a really good place. I feel like I'm stronger and happier than I've been in a long time. I've bought a house and it's like I've found my independence after going through a really rough time," she wrote in the passage.

"It was horrible, the worst time in my life. A four-year relationship, two-year engagement ended by a simple text message. Just like that. Even though things in my career were going really well, it was incredibly difficult for me," the star admitted.

Malik split from Edwards in August 2015 and started dating model Gigi Hadid in the fall. He denied he broke up with the Little Mix singer via text in the December/January issue of Fader magazine.

"If you could word it exactly this way, I'd be very appreciative. I have more respect for Perrie than to end anything over text message," the former One Direction singer said.

"I love her a lot, and I always will, and I would never end our relationship over four years like that. She knows that, I know that, and the public should now that as well. I don't want to explain why or what I did, I just want the public to know I didn't do that," he added.

Edwards and Little Mix released the single "Shout Out to My Ex," which was reportedly inspired by Malik, on Sunday. The group performed the song the same evening on The X Factor U.K.
