NEW YORK, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- The producers of The Last Ship have confirmed the Broadway musical will close Jan. 24.

Directed by Joe Mantello, the show features original music and lyrics by Sting, and a book by John Logan. It officially opened in October.

"Inspired by Sting's own childhood, The Last Ship is set in an English seafaring town that operates around the local shipyard and follows Gideon Fletcher, a man who left home to see the world and returns 14 years later to find that the future of the shipyard is in danger," said a synopsis on the musical's website. "The shipyard's workers decide to take their fate into their own hands and build a towering representation of the shared dream that has defined their existence."

The singer-songwriter joined the cast last month to help boost ticket sales, but it wasn't enough to save the Ship.
