Rita Wilson jumps into music world

LOS ANGELES, May 6 (UPI) -- Actress Rita Wilson says she doesn't believe her marriage to Hollywood mega-star Tom Hanks will give her fledgling singing career much of a boost.

Wilson, 55, has been reinventing herself as a songstress and took a major step in the right direction with a weekend appearance at the famed Troubadour nightclub in Los Angeles, CBS News said.

Wilson told CBS she always wanted to be singer and will be carving out her own path in an industry where hubby Hanks doesn't have a lot of clout. "How is a record label going to say 'I'm going to do her a favor'?" Wilson said.

Wilson's Troubadour gig was in support of her first album, which covers tunes from the 1960s and 1970s, and has some star power from the music world behind it. Venerable talents like Jackson Browne, Faith Hill and Cheryl Crow provide vocal support.

Wilson's resume included 28 movie roles as well as stints on television and Broadway. "I always wanted to sing," she said. "I didn't know how to do it."
