LOS ANGELES, April 27 (UPI) -- American musician Gregg Allman's representatives say he has postponed a book tour by a week so he can undergo a medical procedure.

"We wanted to let everyone know that Gregg is excited for the book launch and is still planning to get out on the road starting May 8," a message on his Web site said Thursday. "We'll be posting updates regularly. Let's all send positive vibes Gregg's way."

Neither the nature of the procedure nor where it was performed were disclosed in the message.

Allman, 64, is a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band. His memoir "My Cross to Bear" is due out Tuesday, the same day he was scheduled to kick off his book-signing tour at Barnes & Noble in New York's Union Square. That engagement as well as several others booked for next week have been postponed.

The May 8 book-signing is to take place at a Barnes & Noble in Buckhead, Ga.
