Music bonanza on Clark New Year's show

NEW YORK, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Dick Clark says New Year's Eve and music in the United States is way more than just Guy Lombardo and the classic "Auld Lang Syn."

The venerable host of ABC's Times Square special says the wide range of musical guests on the show reflects the diversity of the audience ringing in the New Year.

"The night belongs to every conceivable kind of music," Clark, 82, told the Los Angeles Times as he prepared for the 40th anniversary broadcast of "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve."

"There will be highlights from 40 years, with clips representing every genre of music," Clark said, listing an all-star roster of performers from Rihanna, Pink and Taylor Swift back to Three Dog Night, Lionel Richie, and KC and the Sunshine Band.

Clark said Jennifer Lopez's sizzling number in 2009 was one of the most memorable in the show's storied history.

Saturday's live performances include Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Florence and the Machine, Pitbull and many others.
